In Memory Of
Carol Elliott - Bessemer, AL

Virginia "Carol" DeJarnette Elliott was born April 3, 1949, in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the fourth of five children to her parents, John and Virginia DeJarnette. Carol peacefully went to be with the Lord on the morning of November 11, 2023. She was a devoted wife of 51 years, beloved mother to two children and treasured grandmother to three grandchildren. She is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Carol grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, where she graduated from West End High School and later attended Jacksonville State University. In her early 20s she met her soulmate, Jim, through mutual friends at a local ballpark. After a short courtship, they were married on January 21, 1972.

As a young adult she enjoyed working as a legal secretary for Bradley Arant Law Firm and did so for many years. She then decided it was time to stay home to care for her young children, Sherra and Chris. When her children were a little older, she became office manager for the local State Farm agent in Pleasant Grove, Alabama, where she worked for over 30 years. She was well-known and well-loved within the Pleasant Grove community.

Carol was a member of First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove, and she lived her life as a great example of God’s love for his children. She instilled in her children and grandchildren what it looks like to love the Lord and others. She always thought of others and how she could help to make their lives a little better and brighter – especially her family and friends. Carol also had a heart for children’s charities and causes, which she faithfully donated to all of her life.

Carol humbly and selflessly served her family with her life. She was an excellent cook, an enthusiastic celebrator of accomplishments great and small, a fierce board game competitor, and everyone's favorite confidante. She was an extraordinary caretaker and home manager. Carol always wanted her home filled with family and cherished the time she spent keeping her grandchildren and spoiling them.

Carol is survived by her husband, James Elliott; her two children and their spouses, Sherra (and Pete) Wagner, Chris (and Karen) Elliott; her three grandchildren, Anna Kate Elliott, Drew Wagner, and Kinley Elliott; and her sister, Linda Johnson and brother, David DeJarnette.

The family will receive friends for a visitation from 10:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 16, 2023, followed by the funeral service to celebrate Carol’s life at 11:00 a.m., at Bellview Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Tim Hassler.

Carol will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama (family only).
