James “Jimmy” Lawrence Potter, 75, of Ocracoke, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 19, 2023, with family by his side.
Jimmy was born July 3, 1947, to Myrtle G. Potter and Hal C. Potter Sr., of Aurora, North Carolina. Jimmy owned and operated Potter Hardware in Aurora for a number of years. After selling the hardware store, he decided to follow in his father's footsteps and open a seafood business in Lowland, North Carolina, named Island Seafood. He eventually downsized and ran a smaller operation under the same name in Beaufort County. Before retiring, he decided to simply commercial fish, and enjoyed that the most.
In 2015, he relocated to Ocracoke, North Carolina, to be near his daughter and grandchildren. He helped his son-in-law with the maintenance and upkeep of Teeter’s Campground. While in Ocracoke, he made many friends in the campground and enjoyed visiting and helping others. Jimmy was a devoted Father, Papa, and Friend. He will be greatly missed by everyone.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle G. Potter, and Hal C. Potter Sr.; brother, Hal C. Potter Jr.; and brother, Lee S. Potter.
Jimmy is survived by his son, James Todd Potter and wife Chantelle of Blounts Creek, North Carolina; daughter, Kristen Anne Potter and husband Bubbie of Ocracoke, North Carolina; 11 grandchildren, Jenna, Josie, Chelsea, Michael Jr., Sarah, Katie, Caroline, Becky, Brittany, Brieanna, and Brendan; as well as six great-grandchildren.
His memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home Chapel, Alliance, North Carolina.
