Reta Joyce Kinyon, age 86, of Brock, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 10, 2022.
Reta was born in Long Leaf, Louisiana, on September 26, 1935, to Herman Taylor and Jessie Lee Sullivan. She grew up in Oakdale, Louisiana where her father was a pastor and her mother worked as a nurse.
In her growing-up years, Reta participated in basketball, was a Girls Auxilary Queen, and sang in the church and school choirs. She was honored to be a part of the Louisiana All State Choir for two years. She played piano, sang, and loved getting malts at the local soda shop after school.
After graduating from Oakdale High School, Reta attended Louisiana College from which she graduated in 1957 and then went on to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. While there, she met her future husband, Bill. They married on August 24, 1958. Bill worked for General Dynamics while Reta worked as a secretary. In 1965 they welcomed twin girls into their family, and in 1970 the couple moved to Brock after purchasing a farm. Their third daughter was born in 1971 and the Kinyons proceeded to raise their family, bushels of vegetables, a lot of cows and hay, and way too many cats.
Reta returned to school and earned a Master of Education degree from Tarleton State University and then began work as a teacher for Brock I.S.D. where she first taught Kindergarten and then 2nd Grade for 27 years.
Reta is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Kinyon, her parents, Herman Sullivan and Jessie Sullivan, and her brother, Herman “Buzzy” Sullivan. She is survived by her three daughters: Kara (David) Baldwin, Kristi Hayworth, and Katrina (Glen) Shulgen; her sister Linda (Leo) Sullivan-Bashinsky; grandchildren: Brent Baldwin, Brooke Baldwin, Stephen Hayworth, Daniel (Mattie) Hayworth, Katherine Hayworth, Benjamin Shulkin, and Abigail Shulkin; and great-grandson Paxton Hayworth.
A celebration of life service for Reta will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Weatherford, Texas. Visitation and viewing will be prior to the service at 2:00 p.m., with the Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. and burial to follow at Memory Gardens in Weatherford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child or to the Herman Taylor Sullivan Scholarship Fund at New Orleans Baptist Seminary.
