Volunteers are hard at work tarping roofs and removing debris for devastated homeowners in the Oklahoma City area.
Samaritan’s Purse is serving communities surrounding Oklahoma City after a string of tornadoes touched down in the early morning hours of Nov. 3, damaging many homes and businesses. A number of residences were turned into rubble.
“We knew there was a storm coming. We just didn’t know how bad it was,” said homeowner Michael Spicer. “We’ve never had one touch down in the 11 years we’ve been here. We were asleep. It hit about 1:30 in the morning. Then I just heard a bang where it blew the windows out and brought a bunch of debris inside the house.”
Volunteers have been busy serving Oklahoma residents in Jesus’ Name by cutting up fallen trees, removing debris from roofs, and tarping damaged roofs. More than 120 homeowners have requested assistance, and our teams have helped dozens so far with the cleanup, all while sharing the hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
“I was shocked at how much they had done. They don’t know how much I appreciate it. They don’t know how grateful I am for them being here,” Spicer said. “This would have taken me weeks to do by myself.”
Volunteers encouraged many residents by showing up to work on their homes even in the rain.
“It’s amazing. Having Samaritan’s Purse here, I feel like it’s been a weight lifted off our shoulders,” said homeowner Justun Floyd. “I was able to take a deep breath. I’m very, very grateful for the assistance and support that you provided to all the people here.”
We praise God that at least eight residents have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior so far in this response. Please pray that God would continue to work through our efforts in Oklahoma and that many more individuals would come to know the Lord.
