In Memory Of
Christine Shartrand - Pompano Beach, FL

Christine Shartrand, age 72, died on January 21, 2023, after being diagnosed with probable cerebral amyloid angiopathy in November. Her two daughters were by her side and she was surrounded by loved ones in her Deerfield Beach home.

Chris was born on May 25, 1950, in North Adams, Massachusetts, to parents Arthur and Virginia Spencer. She grew up in Stamford, Vermont, and graduated from Drury High School in North Adams, Massachusetts, in 1968. Chris moved from Vermont to Florida in 1978 after meeting her husband, John, on what was expected to be a vacation. The couple married in 1980 and had two adoring daughters together, Erika and Hannah. Chris spent many years working hard alongside her husband at Shartrand’s Lawn Maintenance before taking on the role of preschool teacher at the First Presbyterian Church in Pompano Beach, where she shared her love, joy, and creativity with children until her retirement in 2019.

Above all else, Chris prioritized her faith in God and loved her church family at Grace Baptist Church. She was deeply involved with her Bible study groups and dedicated time each day fervently studying God’s Word, prayerfully living according to His will, and sharing His light everywhere she went. She was an incredible family woman who filled her home with fun and laughter. She enjoyed traveling, learning new things, and spending time with her daughters. Chris will always be remembered as an active, compassionate, creative, kind, funny, selfless, and deeply caring woman with a strong faith in Christ.

Chris is survived by her daughters, Erika Shartrand (Joe Mousel) of Pompano Beach, Florida, and Hannah Torres (Damian), of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sisters, Jan Mares (Phil), Judy Spencer (Dale Norwood), and Ginny Bubak (Ron); brothers, David Spencer (Judy), Stan Spencer (Jan Charbonneau), Peter Spencer, and Tim Spencer (Cindy); her aunt, Marcia (Windover) MacGillivray (Donald); brother-in-laws, Paul Shartrand (Sandy) and Richard Lamb (Holly Taylor). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life, John M. Shartrand, of Pompano Beach; her sister, Jean Lamb (Richard); and her parents, Arthur and Virginia (Windover) Spencer.

A funeral is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2023, at the Grace Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Pompano Beach with a reception to follow. Pastor Gary Colboch will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Chris’s life. The family would like to thank everyone who sent love, prayers, and positive thoughts to Chris before and during this difficult time.
