John Allen Carroll, 85, of Englewood, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on September 29, 2022, at Brookhaven Nursing Home. John was born in Potsdam, Ohio on May 3, 1937, to Kenneth and Mary Carroll. John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, pastor, and mentor to many.
John graduated from Milton-Union High School in 1955 and Bethel College (B.S. Theology) in 1959.
More than anything, John loved the Lord with all his heart. He preached his first sermon at the age of 15 and continued to serve the Lord faithfully for the rest of his life. For fifteen years, John pastored several Missionary Church congregations in Ohio and Indiana. In 1973, he moved with his family to Ohio and founded Living Hope Counseling Services, where for ten years he helped many people find hope and freedom in Christ. He returned to pastoral ministry, as a staff counselor and Christian Education director and then as senior pastor of two different congregations before he retired in 2010.
Not only did he love the Lord, but John loved people. He loved to laugh and to make people laugh. He was always available to listen, to offer a shoulder to cry on, to pray, and to give wise counsel. He was skilled in construction and woodworking, and so often used those gifts to bless others. He lived his life with a song in his heart, a prayer on his lips, and a smile on his face.
He is survived by Darlene, his wife, of 65 years; his three sons and their wives, Mike and Jenny, Doug and Amy, Dave and Jen; his nine grandchildren, Julia (Adam) Brown, James, Lydia, Hope, Anna, Hannah (Dylan) Entz, Elizabeth, Joshua, and Sarah; his great grandson, Isaiah; and his sisters, Shirley (Lee) Winteregg and Linda Short. He was preceded in death by his parents and by brothers, Lee and Neal.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Fairhaven Church Northmont Campus, 5001 National Road, Clayton, Ohio.
