In Memory Of
John Chong - Brooklyn, NY

John C. Chong, born on July 13, 1963, on the island of Trinidad and Tobago, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, in New York City.

In the 1970s, John immigrated to the United States with his family and quickly distinguished himself academically. He attended Stuyvesant High School and later earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Columbia University. His professional life was dedicated to public service, where he worked as an IT specialist for various New York City agencies. After a successful career, he retired in 2019 as an IT manager for the Office of Labor Relations.

John was a man of many passions and talents. He was an avid reader and had a lifelong love of computer games and developed many friendships in the computer gaming community. In early 2024, he fulfilled a dream by publishing his first book, *Save Yourself Now*, under the pen name John Itnoyah. His book showcased his will for survival, how he beat the odds after being told he had only 6 months to live many times. It also exhibited his sense of humor and fun. At the time of his passing, he was actively working on additional literary projects.

An ordained minister and enthusiastic traveler, John loved cruising around the world with his sister and friends. His adventures took him to far-flung destinations such as Antarctica, Greenland, Russia, and the Far East. One of his most cherished memories was being honored as "chief" during a Polynesian ceremony—a testament to his warm and engaging spirit.

John’s kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on those who knew him. Whether treating loved ones to dinner or offering support to those in need, he exemplified selflessness and compassion.

John was the son of James and Mary Chong (both deceased). He is survived by his siblings, Herbert, Margaret, and Patricia; nephew, Richard; and niece, Jennifer.

A private family service will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2025, in New York City.
