Maxine Schwarz, 86, passed away on Jan. 8, 2019. She was born on Dec. 6, 1932, to Mitchell and Darlene Coffman in Twin Falls, Idaho.
The family relocated to her father’s family farm in Cowgill, Missouri, when she was a young girl, and she graduated from Bramer High School. It was during her freshman year at the University of Missouri that she met the love of her life, Harry Schwarz. They married in 1953 and spent their honeymoon driving from Missouri to Texas where her new husband was stationed in the US Air Force.
Maxine and Harry spent the next 65 years together making a loving, happy home for their family. Military assignments had them moving from Texas to Illinois to Okinawa and to finally settling in Columbus, Ohio, in 1969. She viewed each move as an adventure and told her children, “We can be happy anywhere, as long as we are together.”
Maxine relished her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was the sunshine in the family and made life special and fun. Each Christmas her children and grandchildren looked forward to her beautifully decorated Santa Claus cookies. She and her great-grandsons enjoyed blowing bubbles and eating popsicles together.
Her kindness and generosity extended beyond her family. No matter how busy she was, Maxine always had time to help others. New neighbors and friends were often gifted with her delicious, homemade apple cake. Over the years she volunteered with the Officers Wives Club on Okinawa, as room mother at her children’s schools, and as Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts leader. She also volunteered at The Shepherd’s Place. She was a member of the Reynoldsburg Civic Club and of Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church where she cherished the dear friendships she made. Maxine worked for 20 years at Coaxial Cable in Columbus, Ohio.
She loved to travel with her husband, whether it was to golf tournaments, on cruises, or to watch her beloved St. Louis Cardinals play baseball. In the fall on Saturdays, she could be seen decked out in her Scarlet and Gray attire as she cheered on the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Maxine is survived by her loving husband Harry and children, Doug (and wife Kyle), Lynn, and Robert. In addition, she is survived by her five grandchildren, Natalie, Alisha, Brock, Aaron, and Kendra, along with her three great-grandsons, Carter, Miles, and Jamison.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 11:00 a.m. at Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church, 1636 Graham Road, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. The family will greet guests at a luncheon immediately following the service.
