In Memory Of
Paul S. Kawaller - Mechanicsburg, PA

Paul Steven Kawaller, age 70, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, went home to the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2022. Born Dec. 1, 1951, in Rockville Centre, New York, he was the son of the late Jordan and Margery Kawaller, and husband of Beverly Kawaller for 44 years.

Paul attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and worked as an application developer administrator for the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue under the Office of Administration. He retired this past September after a long career with the department.

He was a longtime member of Grace Community Church, where he served as an elder. He also was an active member of the Christian Business Men Connection.

Paul had a wide range of hobbies and interests. He was passionate about learning and loved reading books. It didn't matter if he was studying the Bible, theology, native landscapes, or organic farming—he would devote himself to learning all he could about a topic. He also loved diving into deep conversations with friends and family about everything he was learning—all balanced with a sense of humor, mischief, and a boyish grin.

He adored being outside. Whether gardening, hiking, snowshoeing, camping, fishing, kayaking, or traveling, he'd take any opportunity to get out there. He directed this passion into joyfully serving Grace Community Church by maintaining the gardens and grounds. At its core, this love stemmed from the fact that he truly saw God's glory in nature, as expressed in Psalm 8:1,3-4 "O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?"

One of the few things that could get him indoors was his love of the arts, and his commitment to supporting his children. He would often be found attending plays, musicals, jazz concerts, and U.S. Marine Band concerts.

Paul was preceded into death by his parents, Jordan and Margery Kawaller. Surviving are his wife, Beverly Kawaller of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; two children, Liza Kawaller of Nashville, Tennessee, and Nathan Kawaller and his wife, Meaghan Kawaller, of Alexandria, Virginia; a beloved grandchild, Asher Kawaller; and three siblings, Janet Schaefer of Burbank, California, Ken Kawaller (husband of Deborah Kawaller) of Northport, New York, and Judy Maung (wife
of Ed Maung) of Redding, California. He also leaves behind multiple generations of nieces and nephews.
